Hydration is only half of it
Dry skin usually gets treated as a shortage of water, so the answer looks like more water. Water on its own evaporates. What tight, flaky skin needs is something that draws moisture in, then something richer laid over the top to hold it there. That is why these two layer: the plumping treatment first, the ceramide cream second. If your face feels comfortable at nine and papery by two, the missing piece is usually the one you skipped.
The ingredients that comfort your skin when it is dry are the delicate ones. Botanical lipids and ferments are the first to break down in a warm warehouse. By the time a conventional bottle reaches you, it has already had a long summer. Ours never leave refrigeration between the studio bench and the sealed bottle. That is also why no synthetic preservative system is holding any of this together, and why the label on the back stays short.
