Dullness builds up in layers. Most exfoliants only clear one.

Rough texture, clogged pores, and uneven tone don't all sit on the surface. They form at different depths of your skin. A surface scrub can't reach the buildup underneath, and a single acid can't clear what it wasn't designed for. Reaching every layer requires both mechanisms working together.

Why These Ingredients Work

Most exfoliating products rely on one mechanism: a glycolic peel, a bead scrub, a salicylic wash. Yuki-Onna combines chemical and physical exfoliation in a single step, with built-in soothing so freshly revealed skin is calm from the start.

Triple-Acid Complex (Glycolic, Lactic, Natural Salicylic from White Willow Bark)

Three acids at three depths. Glycolic acid has the smallest molecule of the three: it penetrates deepest for cellular renewal. Lactic acid works the mid-layers, hydrating as it exfoliates. Natural salicylic acid from wild-crafted white willow bark is oil-soluble, so it cuts through sebum to clear congestion inside pores where water-soluble acids can't reach. Sugar cane, lemon, and apple extracts provide additional natural AHA sources that support the primary acids.

Three-Seed Blend (Pomegranate, Cranberry, Blueberry)

While the acids dissolve buildup below the surface, these antioxidant-rich seeds provide gentle mechanical polish above it. Each seed type is a slightly different size, creating a more thorough physical exfoliation than single-seed scrubs. They buff dead cells away without micro-tears, and unlike plastic microbeads, they break down naturally.

Roman Chamomile + Three Forms of Aloe

This is how Yuki-Onna combines acids and physical exfoliation without leaving skin raw. Roman chamomile calms inflammation on contact. Three forms of aloe (leaf extract, whole leaf, and flower extract) hydrate and soothe at different rates, creating a sustained recovery window that starts during the treatment itself. Freshly exfoliated skin is supported before irritation ever gets a foothold.

Abyssinian Oil + Shea Oil

Exfoliation strips lipids. These replenish them. Abyssinian oil (from crambe seed) is ultralight and penetrates immediately, restoring the protective layer that acids temporarily thin. Shea oil adds deeper moisture so skin feels nourished, not stripped. Together, they're why Yuki-Onna leaves skin softer after exfoliation than before it.

Two Ways to Use, One Formula

15-minute mask: Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin. Let the acids work at depth while the chamomile and aloe keep skin calm. Rinse for deep renewal.

2-minute polish: Dampen the granules with warm water and massage in circles. The moisture activates the seeds for instant physical exfoliation while limiting acid contact time. Rinse for immediate brightness.

Same jar. Different intensity. Choose based on what your skin needs that day.

Why This Version Works When Others Didn't

If exfoliating products have felt harsh, unpredictable, or just didn't deliver for you, the formula may not have been the problem.

Acids are heat-sensitive. Glycolic acid oxidizes in warm storage. Lactic acid loses potency over time. The plant enzymes in botanical formulas continue reacting inside the container, gradually breaking down the soothing and moisturizing ingredients they were formulated alongside.

This is why many exfoliating products feel different a few months after you buy them than they did when they were new. The acids have shifted in strength, the soothing botanicals have degraded, and the balance the formulator intended no longer exists. The result is either too harsh or too weak, with no way to predict which.

Wild Ice cold-preserves Yuki-Onna from the raw ingredient library through formulation and storage. Cold slows all three degradation pathways: oxidation, enzymatic activity, and microbial breakdown. The acids arrive at the concentration they were formulated at. Predictable strength means predictable results.

"It's truly a rarity to find an exfoliating product that both nourishes and sloughs away dead skin cells without creating irritation. This mask alongside Cryo-C gives you the most beautiful glow."

Best After Exfoliation

Freshly exfoliated skin absorbs actives more effectively. Follow Yuki-Onna with Gaea's Gala toner to restore pH, then Cryo-C and D.B.T. Baba Yaga. Exfoliation day is the best day to get maximum benefit from your serums and creams.

How to Use

Method 1: The Deep Treatment Mask (15 minutes)

  1. Apply a thin, even layer to clean, dry skin. You should see a translucent veil, not a thick paste.
  2. Leave on for 15 minutes. You may feel a gentle tingle as the acids activate.
  3. Wet your fingertips and massage in circular motions to activate the seeds for physical exfoliation.
  4. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.

Method 2: The Quick Polish (2 minutes)

  1. On damp skin, massage a small amount in gentle circles.
  2. The moisture activates the seeds immediately while limiting acid contact time.
  3. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.

After either method: Spritz Gaea's Gala toner to restore pH balance (especially important after acids). Let it air-dry, then apply Cryo-C while skin is still slightly damp, followed by D.B.T. Baba Yaga. Use SPF the following morning.

Frequency: 1 to 2 times per week. If you have sensitive skin, start with the 2-minute polish once a week and build from there.

Storage: Keep the lid tightly closed. If the product seems dry after a period of non-use, add a few drops of water and stir. Natural separation is normal. Store out of direct sunlight. If you're not ready to start using it right away, keep it cold until you are (the kitchen fridge is fine).

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Yuki-Onna too harsh for sensitive skin?

Yuki-Onna was designed to make multi-acid exfoliation accessible to sensitive skin, not just resilient skin. The Roman chamomile and three forms of aloe work during the treatment, not after it, so inflammation is suppressed before it starts.

If you're concerned about sensitivity, start with the 2-minute polish method. The shorter contact time limits acid penetration while still giving you the physical exfoliation benefits. Once your skin adjusts, try the full 15-minute mask.

There's also a factor most people don't consider: when exfoliating ingredients degrade through heat and oxidation, their strength becomes unpredictable. A product that felt fine last month might irritate this month because the balance between acids and soothing agents has shifted. Cold preservation keeps that balance intact, so the product is consistent from first use to last.

Which method should I start with?

If you're new to chemical exfoliation or have sensitive skin, start with the 2-minute polish. It gives you the physical exfoliation benefits with minimal acid contact time. After two or three sessions, try the 15-minute mask for deeper renewal.

If your skin handles acids well and you want maximum results, go straight to the mask. Many customers alternate between methods: the mask once a week for deep treatment, with a quick polish midweek for maintenance.

Can I use Yuki-Onna on the same day as retinol?

We recommend separating them. Use Yuki-Onna on its own day, and apply retinol on a different evening. Both acids and retinol increase cell turnover, and layering them can overwhelm even resilient skin. Alternating gives your skin the benefits of both without the risk of over-exfoliation.

How long does a jar last?

At 1 to 2 uses per week, most customers get 10 to 14 weeks from a jar. The mask method uses slightly more product per session than the polish method, so your timeline will depend on which you prefer.

What's not in this formula?

No plastic microbeads, no synthetic fragrances, no parabens, no phthalates, no formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, no sulfates, no petroleum derivatives, and no animal-derived ingredients. Cold does the preserving, so nothing synthetic needs to. Yuki-Onna is 100% vegan and cruelty-free.

The ingredients on your label are probably excellent. The problem is what happened to them before they reached your skin.

Conventional skincare absorbs heat at every stop between the factory and your bathroom. That heat breaks down the actives you're paying for.

    We measured exactly how much.

Preservatives Fight One Problem. Heat Causes Three.

    Bacterial growth

    Bacterial Digestion

Bacteria multiply in warm formulas. Preservatives suppress this. So does cold, without the chemical load on your skin.

    Oxidation reactions

    Redox Reactions

Heat drives chemical reactions that degrade vitamin C, ceramides, and peptides. Preservatives don't slow this process. Cold does.

    Enzymatic activity

    Enzymatic Activity

Plant enzymes keep breaking down botanical compounds after harvest. Preservatives don't affect this. Cold puts them on pause.

Skincare mini fridge with rotten banana illustrating that cold cannot reverse prior heat damage

    Cold Can't Unspoil the Banana

Beauty fridges are popular because everyone wants fresh skincare. But putting conventional products in one makes about as much sense as refrigerating an old banana.

Your serum already absorbed 1,900+ degree-days of heat damage before it reached you. Months of warm ingredient storage, manufacturing, and warehousing.

A spoiled banana has the courtesy to turn brown. A degraded cream looks and feels identical to a fresh one. You just wonder why your skin isn't improving.

Beauty fridges make conventional skincare cold at the end. Wild Ice is cold from the beginning.

Why Don't Other Brands Chill Too?

Retail won't refrigerate it. Amazon requires products to withstand 155°F indefinitely. Contract manufacturers formulate at room temperature. The conventional supply chain is built around products that survive heat, not products that avoid it.

Cold preservation means no retail placement, no marketplace distribution, no outsourced production. It requires small-batch formulation, dedicated cold storage, and shipping directly to you.

We built Wild Ice from the ground up around that model.

    Meet Your Formulator

I grew up in the Soviet Union watching my grandmother make skincare from her garden. It worked because it was fresh. There was no other option.

In 2018, I began cold-storing every ingredient and finished product. I hadn't changed a single formula. The reviews changed on their own.

A national retailer offered us shelf placement but refused to refrigerate our products. We walked away.

I hand-formulate every product in small weekly batches. I've worn every formula through three pregnancies. Every bottle is one I'd use on my own family.

    Common Questions About Cold-Preserved Skincare

Do I need a beauty fridge?

It helps but it's not required. Our products are formulated to remain stable at room temperature for the duration of normal use (most customers finish a product within 6-8 weeks). The cold preservation advantage happens before the product reaches you: cold-stored ingredients, cold formulation, cold warehousing. That's where conventional skincare accumulates months of heat damage that we avoid entirely.

If you do have a beauty fridge, storing Wild Ice products in it will extend their potency even further. But you're already getting the product at a level of freshness that room-temperature brands can't match, fridge or no fridge.

What if my package sits at my door while I'm at work?

A few hours of doorstep time doesn't meaningfully affect the product. Conventional skincare accumulates thousands of degree-days of heat damage across its supply chain lifecycle. A package sitting in afternoon sun for four hours might add a single-digit number of degree-days. The gap between Wild Ice and conventional products is so large that even a full day on a hot porch leaves our products with a fraction of the heat damage a conventional product accumulated before it was even sealed in its box.

How long do products last once I'm using them?

Most customers use a product within 6-8 weeks of receiving it. During that time, stored at room temperature, the product remains stable and effective. If you're not planning to start using it right away (gifting it, finishing another product first), store it in any refrigerator until you're ready. The kitchen fridge works fine.

Our products don't contain the heavy chemical preservative loads that give conventional skincare an 18-month shelf life, because they don't need them. They're made fresh, shipped fast, and designed to be used, not stockpiled.

Are your products safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Mila formulated and tested every Wild Ice product during pregnancy and breastfeeding. She has worn every formula through three pregnancies. Our products use no parabens, no synthetic fragrances, no phthalates, and no chemical preservatives: the ingredients you're typically told to avoid during pregnancy aren't in the bottle to begin with.

Hundreds of customers have used Wild Ice products during pregnancy and breastfeeding. That said, we always recommend checking with your OB or midwife before adding anything new to your routine. Every practitioner has their own guidance, and we respect that.

If cold preservation is so effective, why isn't everyone doing it?

Because it's expensive, logistically difficult, and incompatible with how the industry distributes products. Conventional skincare is built to survive months of warm warehousing, long-haul freight, and retail shelf display. That entire infrastructure depends on products being shelf-stable in heat.

Major retailers won't install product fridges that rearrange floor space and make their other lines look inferior. Amazon requires products to withstand 155°F indefinitely, with no exceptions. We asked.

Cold preservation requires a completely different model: small batches, dedicated cold storage, direct-to-consumer shipping, and no retail partners. Most brands can't or won't restructure their entire operation around temperature control. We built Wild Ice from scratch specifically to do this, and we turned down retail distribution to protect it.

    Do you ship cold?

Not yet, though we're actively working on it. Here's why it matters less than you'd think.

The days a product spends in a shipping box are a tiny fraction of its total lifecycle. The real damage in conventional skincare happens during months of warm ingredient storage, warehousing, and retail display. That's where thousands of degree-days of heat damage accumulate. Transit adds a small, single-digit number by comparison.

We could put a cold pack in every box. But that would be an expensive gesture solving roughly 2% of the problem while raising your price. The cold preservation that matters is everything before the box, and that's the part we've solved.
