How to Keep Oily Skin Moisturized in Winter: 4 Important Tips

Winter can be a confusing time for skincare, and it can get even more complicated if you’re starting out with oily skin!

Thankfully, caring for oily skin in the winter doesn’t have to be complicated. We’re sharing exactly how to keep oily skin moisturized in winter.

How Does Winter Affect Your Skin?

Everyone is unique, so your skin may react differently to winter than the skin of the people around you. But generally speaking, people who spend their winters in cold weather environments tend to notice their skin get a little drier this time of year.

This is due to a particularly potent combination of heating indoors, cold weather outdoors and--in some cases--whipping wind!

For some people, dry skin can manifest as just that--dry skin! Yet for other folks, dryness may actually make their skin oily as it tries to compensate for lack of moisture.

How to Care for Oily Skin in Winter

There are a couple common beliefs that may be working against you if you’re dealing with oily skin in the winter. The first is that oily skin doesn’t need to be moisturized, and the second is that winter requires extra heavy moisturizers. Neither of these things are true!

As mentioned above, your oily skin may actually need moisture even more than someone who doesn’t have oily skin, and super heavy moisturizers aren’t always the way to go.

Instead, it’s prudent to try layering a  ceramide rich moisturizer  over a  nourishing serum . This will help to bring your skin into balance without suffocating it or producing more oil.

Here are a few other ways to hydrate oily skin in the winter:

  • Eat a moisture rich diet. Sometimes, good skin has to come from the inside out. So it’s important to eat nutrient-rich, hydrating foods like fruit and vegetables. Similarly, you’ll see an improvement in your skin if you limit alcohol, salt and fried foods, which all contribute to inflammation and dry skin.
  • Cleanse your skin twice a day. Excess sebum production can lead to oily skin, so it’s important to keep it in check with regular cleansing. Especially in the winter, it’s important to use a cleanser that fortifies your skin rather than dries it out. We’ve formulated our  B-Meltee cleanser  with tons of Vitamin B, which helps to protect your skin from the harsh winter environment.
  • Exfoliate a couple of times per week. Exfoliating your skin too frequently in the winter can lead to dryness, but it’s important not to give it up entirely. Exfoliating twice a week can help remove product and dry skin build up that contributes to oily skin. It’s all about balance!

And there you have it. Keeping oily skin moisturized in the winter can be achieved in just a few simple steps. Instead of drowning your skin in overly-heavy moisturizers (or avoiding moisture in the first place), the key is to layer high-quality nourishing products in addition to taking good care of your skin.

At Wild Ice, all of our products are kept cold until the moment we ship them to you. This way, we avoid using any toxic preservatives that can irritate your skin and make your oil problem worse.

Cold preservation also keeps our skincare extra fresh and potent, which means you get maximum hydration and nourishment in every single drop. Get started with our  4-Step Facial Set  today and see how your oily skin thrives.
