Why aren't your products more expensive?

We get this question often.

It's because the #1 cost of skincare is marketing, and by a wide margin.

Most brands have very little that truly sets them apart. As a result, the majority of their product's price is due to the immense marketing and advertising costs of convincing people to buy them.

For us this simply isn't the case. As the world's first (and only) cold-preserved skincare line, people are naturally interested in our unique offering, and often express shock that our common-sense approach is so uncommon (see next question for why that is).

That means we save (a lot) on advertising, which enables us to remain affordable to a wider pool of shoppers.

A high price is not a feature—that's a truism we've coined as a core part of our company culture. We hope you'll agree.

Why don't other brands use cold preservation instead of chemicals?

Conventional brands want:

Retail chains to stock them,
Distribution by a massive network like Amazon,
Production outsourced to a large manufacturer.

None of these offer cold preservation. It's easier to just go with the flow than it is to swim against the currents of retail, distribution, and production.

In short, it's a problem of industry inertia, aka "lock-in."

Do I have to chill my Wild Ice products?

More than 95% of a typical skincare product's lifecycle consists of everything that happens before it gets into your hands (and onto your skin).

So, while chilling your products is never bad, we want to emphasize that the important thing is using fresh products frequently. They do no good as museum pieces on your vanity.

So if chilling your products gets in the way of performing a consistent routine, or is too much of a hassle, don't stress about it. You're still getting 95% of the benefit so long as you're using them daily, in which case they should be finished within two to three months.

If you want the absolute freshest skincare possible, then chilling them is helpful. The caveat is that you'll need to thaw them fully before each use.

So the short answer is no, you don't have to chill them. And you should not stress about it. But, if you're hardcore, then you certainly can, so long as you thaw fully before use.

Note that if for some reason you plan to wait a month or more before you actually start using your products, then do go ahead and put them in your kitchen refrigerator at least until you begin using them.

Can I cancel or adjust my subscription box?

Yes. From your own customer portal, you can easily cancel or pause your subscription box, adjust the frequency, or even reschedule the next order date, but that's only the beginning.

Once you're ready to explore more Wild Ice products, you can build your own custom subscription box using our box builder.

Although not possible with the Essentials Routine subscription (as it is treated as a single product at checkout) with our box builder you can add or remove products on-the-fly (between shipments) and watch as your discount tier dynamically updates depending on your total box value. What if the products are left at my door? Will they be ruined?

That's ok, they'll be fine.

Use the iceberg analogy when you think about conventional skincare: the vast majority of product breakdown occurs where you don't see it—in warehouses, distribution centers, and store shelves. Those hidden portions of a product's journey are where the vast majority of degradation occurs.

A bit of time waiting for you to come home is a tiny drop in the bucket, which is why we tell our customers never to stress.

Get fresh products and use them daily (they can't work their magic from inside the bottle)—that's the secret to your best skin.

But I read somewhere that cold doesn't matter?

Yes, ever since we came on the scene some brands have begun writing articles about how cold preservation doesn't matter.

The funny thing is that even those articles will almost always admit that it does matter for vitamin C serums. And for peptides (a special amino acid). And ceramides (a special lipid). And maybe a few other things that absolutely do readily degrade.

Then after admitting that (which already cedes most of the point to us), they'll spend 90% of the article trying to debunk cold preservation while linking irrelevant studies that they know no one will actually read.

Here's the deal: If you're buying our products, you're not buying theirs. That's why they write this stuff. And on top of it most of these brands are outsourcing production, and/or using fulfillment centers like Amazon, and/or sitting on retail shelves—from each of which there's basically no going back. If cold preservation catches on (as it gradually is), what are they to do?

And if they actually believe what they're writing, they can go unplug their fridge. That's a joke. Because that would literally poison them. Which makes you think about what most people are putting on their skin...
