Combination Skincare Routine: Gently Bring Skin Into Balance

Combination Skincare Routine: Gently Bring Skin Into Balance

Liudmila Busch

Peanut butter and jelly, a rainy day and a good book: some combinations are a match made in heaven. But there’s one combination we could do without: combination skin.

Luckily, this skincare quandary doesn’t have to be your reality forever. We’re sharing a simple, natural combination skincare routine that can help bring your skin into balance.

What is Combination Skin?

Combination skin is exactly what it sounds like; a mix of multiple skin types. Typically, people with combo skin experience oily skin in their T-zone: their forehead, nose and chin. The rest of their skin (like their cheeks and jawline), tends to be overly-dry.

How Do I Know If I Have Combination Skin?

If the skin in your T-zone is shiny and oily even after you’ve washed it, that’s a sign that you may have combination skin. This is especially true if you’re also experiencing dry patches or rough skin on your cheeks and jawline at the same time.

What Causes Combination Skin?

Just like any other skin issue, there are many factors that can be contributing to your combination skin. Let’s review a few of the most common ones:

Diet:  Many folks who have skincare issues find that they have to say goodbye to wine and cheese nights. Alcohol and dairy are two large contributors to acne, oily skin and other issues.

Dairy is high in hormones that can disrupt the delicate balance of hormones in your body, leading to oily skin. On the other side of the spectrum, alcohol is dehydrating, so in excess it can lead to dry skin.

Similarly, foods high in salt or foods that are fried can dehydrate and damage your skin over time.

Your environment:  Especially if you’re spending time in a new location, your skin may be struggling to adjust to a new environment. Extra dry air and humidity can throw your skin off balance.

Sometimes the best solution here is to give your skin adequate time to adjust, along with taking good care of your health and staying hydrated. A gentle skincare routine can also help your skin adapt, which we’ll get to shortly!

Genetics: Unfortunately, you may have inherited more than just your dad’s resourcefulness or your mom’s green thumb. You may have also been gifted with their oily skin genes. Again, a nourishing skincare routine can help to correct this.

Hormones: Ahh hormones. When they’re out of whack, you’re surely going to know it. One of the many ways wonky hormones can manifest is in issues with your skin. If this is the case, it may take more than just the right serum or moisturizer to balance your skin. You’ll likely need to work with a practitioner to investigate and address the source of your imbalance.

The wrong skincare products: Using harsh, preservative- or fragrance-filled products can damage your skin and its pH balance, leading to combination skin. Conversely, you may also be avoiding a product that you actually need to be using, like moisturizer.

A Gentle Combination Skincare Routine

Many times, people with combination skin will be told to use two different sets of products to address their skin concerns: one set of products for oily skin and another for dry skin. However, here at Wild Ice we don’t think that’s the best way to go.

For one thing, that’s a lot of extra expense! But also, using two different sets of products designed for certain skin types means you’ll only be putting a bandage on the problem. Instead, we think it’s much more prudent to find a solution.

And the solution, for many people, is to use a gentle and nourishing skincare routine that focuses on entirely natural and toxin-free products. This can help to bring your skin naturally into balance, so that combination skin is a thing of the past.

Here is the skincare routine we recommend using our entirely non-toxic, preservative-free and cold-kept skincare line:

  • Cleanse your skin with a vitamin-rich cleanser. Our  B-Meltee  cleanser is fortified with high doses of vitamin B. Why? This special vitamin helps build up your skin’s resistance to external pollutants, which are frequent contributors to imbalanced skin.
  • Tone your skin with a nourishing toner. Toner is one of the most-skipped steps in many folks’ skincare routines, but it’s actually very important. Exposure to daily-life things like sweat, pollution and makeup can disrupt your skin’s pH balance, leading to oily or dry skin. Toner helps to bring it back into balance. We amp up our toner with a special yeast called  galactomyces, which is proven to keep skin looking younger and smoother.
  • Apply a Vitamin C serum. Of all the vitamins out there, Vitamin C is probably most loved by skincare aficionados, and for good reason. It’s a superstar at calming the inflammation that can often come along with combination skin.
  • Finish with a protective moisturizing cream.  Some people with combination skin may skip on the moisturizer because they fear it will make their oily skin worse. However, oily skin can often be a sign that your skin is too  dry  and is overproducing oil to compensate. So moisturizer is necessary! We created our  Siberian CreamTherapy  with a potent ceramide complex so it fights aging as it hydrates, because you don’t want to go directly from combination skin to prematurely aged-looking skin!

All products at Wild Ice are kept cold until the moment we ship them to you. This way, we can avoid using any toxic preservatives that only make your combination skin worse. Keeping our skincare cold also keeps it potent and nutrient-dense, so you get the best results possible. See comparison.
